The Los Angeles-based brand's 1st shop opened in 2011 in the neighborhood of Venice, followed by outposts in Silver Lake, Melrose and a gorgeous cook book. We hear that New York is next... Below, this inspiring and pioneering wellness woman shares her challenges, rituals and tips for getting started.

Inside/Out: How was Moon Juice born and what does it look like now?
Amanda Chantal Bacon: I actually had no idea I was going to open Moon Juice. It was an organic evolution of my professional cooking experience mingled with my passion for health and wellness.
I originally had another name for the brand that I was totally uninspired by. I was in Northern California standing on the beach one morning when an old-school bus came rolling up through the fog. It had this hippie mural of the moon painted on the side. Moon Juice came to me in that moment.
The inspiration was to provide the absolute best quality health products available in a setting that is aesthetically pleasing.  On a personal level, I wanted to go to work every day and be excited to put the best stuff in my body and that of my child's
Moon juice excites and inspires people looking to get on the path and satiates those like myself that are already down the rabbit hole.  We have become a beacon to a community.
I created Moon Juice for people interested in a new way of living. Not a way where you have to erase your past, but a way fueled by excitement to help yourself live better. Our only intention is to add goodness and beauty to your life.
I/O: How will it look in the future?
A: More, more, more: moon dust products, moon milks, cosmic treats, stores, and books. We will be bringing powerful ingredients that were once unknown and hard to acquire into homes all over the world.
I/O: How do you achieve - or strive to improve - your professional, emotional, mental and physical harmony in your life?
Meditation, love and adaptogens
I/O: What experts do you admire? Who are your teachers?
Alice Waters, Jane Goodall, Ina May Gaskin!
I/O: What does your community look like?
My community is a sea of loving, creative, humans truly on a mission to shift consciousness through their arts and endeavors!

I/O: Who or what helped you get where you are today?
I have had incredible teachers along the way.... Doctors, herbalists, gurus, and spirits!
I/O: What challenges have you faced?
My own health struggles. In 2006, I began studying the power of raw, medicinal foods to heal the hypothyroid condition I had had since I was a teen, in addition to my severe allergies to wheat, sugar, and cow dairy. Although I was still working as a chef in fine dining, at this juncture my whole diet changed. I ate primarily vegetables and legumes from the farmer’s market, and foods that would serve as hormonal adaptogens. Within a few months, I noticed a radical shift. My next round of blood work revealed that my thyroid hormone levels were back to normal.

Working in fine dining was amazing, but my own transformative experience – backed up by extensive blood tests, the scrutiny of several physicians, renewed feelings of vitality, and a shift in my personality, immunity, appearance, and thought – inspired me to create Moon Juice. These live, medicinal foods changed me from the inside out.

I/O: Do you have a mantra?
Feed your bliss.

I/O: Through Moon Juice you have become a sort of caregiver to so many people, healing people through. Who takes care of you?
MOTHER NATURE! she's forever giving.
I/O: How would you define Moon Juice in 3 words?
Love, Power and Truth

I/O: Three words that describe you on a personal level?
Open, Present and Love

I/O: Tell us about your rituals?
In the morning: Meditation, vanilla mushroom protein with power, brain, or sex dust, dry body brushing, carrot seed oil on my face In the evening: beauty dust in hot water, dark chocolate (it doesn't keep me up!), end of day emails, bio mat
I spike my food and drinks with adaptogens all day long, a teaspoon of ashwagandha in my tea, a teaspoon of cordyceps in my shake. The Moon Dust Latte program at our Melrose shop is based off this concept. You can get a Brain Dust Latte that includes rhodiola, a well known energizing adaptogen, or a Spirit Dust Latte, which includes calming and heart opening reishi mushroom.
I wash with a dead sea mineral bar soap and then mist my face with my own special potion that I make mixing rose hydrosol and witch hazel. I also love the Pratima line of Ayurvedic products
Lots of green juice and meditation!

I/O: Do you ever ‘fall off the wellness wagon’? If so, what does this mean to you? If not, how do you avoid temptation?
I can't say that I feel guilty about it, but I do get a lot of pleasure from indulging in coconut milk ice cream and I can never resist raw chocolate
I/O: What websites, books, podcasts or other tools would you recommend to our community?
A: Be Here Now by Ram Dass. Waldorf educated authors like Rudolph Steiner. I have a stack of spiritual parenting books by my bedside with every intention of reading them, but have not had a second! When I was pregnant I read every single one of Ida Gaskin’s books. Parenting inspiration also comes out of a lot of the books I read for myself, such as Pema Chodron and Chogyam Trungpa.

I/O: Can you share some tips, ingredients and/or recipes for people who are just getting started? I.e., What does the Amanda Chantal Bacon ‘starter kit’ look like?
A: In general I would say avoid sugar, wheat, and alcohol... but if this is part of your ritual then maybe include smaller portions of this stuff and larger portions of plant based foods…greens, adaptogens, healthy fats to your diet.
I/O: What role does travel play in your life? Where do you plan to go in 2017?
I can remember being four or five years old, and having a globe and my favorite thing to do by myself was to spin the globe and to close my eyes and to let my finger go over all the bumps as it spun and then I would open my eyes and see where my finger was. I played that game for years. There was nothing more interesting than that. So I have this veracious appetite to see the entire planet, to meet everyone, experience all the foods of the world, the climates, to get into every ocean, and to meet every single archetype that’s living out there.
Bali, and its crazy that I haven’t been there yet! But I do believe in time-codes, and I think there are certain places that I’m mean to be at certain points in my journey. So Bali is this place. I think what I have been waiting for is to go with my Son, I really feel like I need to be there with him. To go for a month and have that experience with Rohan, we can live on the beach and eat fruit. I have a bunch of friends who live outside of Ubud, and there are farms that I have been communicating with and making arrangements to visit. There are temples that I dream of at night, that I feel like I have already been to. There are artists that live out there, who’s artwork I have in my home, so it is a total time-code activation that we are rapidly approaching, so I feel like that’s next.
I/O: What role does music play in your life? Do you have a playlist to share? Or a ‘power’ song?
Music is my heartbeat, it's my coffee, it's the air in my breath... I love Rogov
I/O: What makes you happy?
A: Sitting alone in silence for 30 minutes puts me into straight bliss!
I/O: What do you do when something makes you unhappy?
Don't think too hard or it all comes crashing down, just keep going, don't give up, don't stop to sit around and feel bad for yourself, move on!
I/O: What inspires you more than anything else?
Love, the great outdoors and my incredible little boy Rohan
I/O: A desire, a wish, an intention or manifestation for 2017?
To feed the bliss, mine and yours!
