It all started with a legging. But not just any legging. A legging made out of recycled plastic bottles. And distributed for free.

When Girlfriend Collective débuted their 1st style in the summer of 2016 - a high-waisted black legging, designed to flatter a variety of body types - the Seattle-based brand put out an open call for women to pre-order it free of charge.

A few of us were lucky enough to have made the cut and we were thrilled by the results: sleek, smooth, soft and supportive.

But wait there's more. Each pair is made with 25 recycled plastic water bottles through an innovative process in their fair trade SA8000 certified factory in Taiwan.

To date, Girlfriend Collective steadily continues to produce what the brand calls "eco-friendly apparel for people who care about doing good as well as looking good." In terms of product, this translates as a meticulously designed, core collection made from high quality, sustainable textiles.

The current collection consists of 4 styles of leggings (2 rises and 2 lengths), 2 bras that can easily double as tops, and - most recently - limited edition tees made from deadstock fabric.

The latest color ways such as Red Ochre, Midnight and Apricot are perfect for transitioning into Fall with flair.

Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for restocks on sold-out items as well as new styles available to pre-order on their site.
