Julie Chopinet is the founder of Animée Paris, the only eshop in France to propose a selection of premium, independent and edgy activewear brands, like P.E. Nation, Lurv, Lilybod (all featured in our Fan Club section BTW). Just back from a retail scouting mission in Hong Kong (see our brand new travel guide), she shares her top winter travel essentials exclusively with Inside/Out.
#1 - Sweatpants
1. WELL CUT SWEATPANTS
I love sweat pants by Zoe Karssen. They are well cut, with soft fleece and keep you really warm. My favorite style is the Relaxed Fit. Neither too baggy, nor too tight they are perfect for snoozing while traveling.
#2 - A COMFY SWEATSHIRT
2. A COMFY SWEATSHIRT
PE Nation's Wembley sweatshirt is comfy, all cotton and roomy enough to wear over inner layers. A great athleisure piece but also functional for long runs in low temps.
#3 - A BIG CASHMERE SCARF
3. A BIG CASHMERE SCARF OR SHAWL
UNIQLO is my go-to brand for cashmere scarves and shawls to take on my travels. They are very soft - be sure to buy the ones in 100% cashmere - and keep you really warm...starting with the plane or train.
#5 - LIP BALM
4. ALL-NATURAL LIP BALM
The Rituals' Baume Magique is proof that big things can come in small packages. Thick with a pleasant smell, I apply continuously throughout the winter.
#5 - WIPES & PATCHES
5. FACE WIPES & EYE PATCHES
IMO, Klorane makes the best face wipes on the market, perfect for removing make-up in flight. Their eye patches are great, too. They smell nice and the cornflower water - one of the brand's signatures - soothes and depuffs jet lagged peepers.
#6 - A RELAXATION
6. A RELAXATION APP
Despite having lived internationally and having taking my fair share of planes, I still get nervous on long hauls. Before each take off, I open my an app designed for relaxation. In France, I use RespiRelax+ (editor's note: for US users, we suggest Fear of Flying App), close my eyes and stat to unwind through guided and gauged breathing.
#7 - A GOOD THRILLER
7. A GOOD THRILLER
I can't travel without a good book and often choose thrillers that I start a bit before heading out of town to be sure that I'll be totally into it on my trip. My absolute favorite this year was J.P. Delaney's bestseller The Girl Before soon to become a feature film, adapted by Ron Howard.
#8 - A BIG (LIGHTWeIGHT) BAG
8. A BIG BAG FOR MY NECESSITIES
This big neoprene Brighton Bag by Prene has been by my go-to for months now. It was inspired by surf wetsuits and is therefore extremely resistant, lightweight and holds way more things that one would think. It is sold with a small clutch, also in neoprene, that is ideal for a passport and boarding pass.
